Baghdad, Iraq, (KRG.org) - Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation met yesterday the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim, in Baghdad.

Mr. al-Hakim expressed his pleasure for Prime Minister Barzani and KRG delegation's visit to Baghdad and hoped the talks with Iraqi Federal Government would lead to resolving the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

He said that in order to remain strong, both the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad need each other. They should therefore settle the differences and confront terrorism together. Mr. al-Hakim commended the Kurdistan Region and Peshmarga forces for their role in sheltering the internally displaced people and fighting terrorism.

Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani reiterated that Kurdistan Region’s delegation is in Baghdad to settle the issues for which it seeks an Iraqi solution. The Prime Minister thanked Iraq’s oil minister, Dr. Adel Abdul-Mahdi, for his visit, earlier this month, to the Kurdistan Region, which paved the way for the resumption of dialog and negotiations on the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

Prime Minister Barzani stated that he is pleased with the positive atmosphere in Baghdad, hoping that the two sides reach a realistic agreement.
