ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Turkish delegation is set to meet with representatives from the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in the coming days, Turkey’s Sabah newspaper reported Tuesday.

The meeting will likely to take place at the PKK’s mountainous Qandil stronghold in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan Region. The two sides hope for an agreement that will lead to disarmament of the PKK’s 5,000-strong guerrilla fighters.

“We will have a meting with the government officials within days and then we will head for Qandil,” Seri Surraya Under, an MP from the Turkish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) said.

“We will keep Abdullah Ocalan informed about the developments,” the MP said, referring to the PKK leader, who remains in a Turkish jail since 1999. The delegation met with Ocalan at his Imrali island prison before meeting with top Turkish intelligence officials.

The delegation said Tuesday that Ankara has approved of Ocalan’s so-called roadmap to peace, which includes a complete ceasefire, start of peace talks and return of guerrillas to their communities without risk of future prosecution.
