Anbar tribal forces overwhelmed by heavy ISIS attack
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Heavy fighting is going on in Iraq’s western city of Ramadi between Islamic State (ISIS) militants and tribal forces for a second day, a local official said.

“We need urgent air support to repel this attack on our city,” Falih al-Issawi, deputy head of Anbar provincial council told Rudaw by telephone.

Al-Issawi said that the ISIS “has gathered a large force, around 2,000 fighters” for an intense attack on Ramadi, the provincial capital.

“Local police, the army and tribal forces are all involved in this fight,” said al-Issawi. “But we urge the coalition forces to intensify their airstrikes against the ISIS.”
