Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani today welcomed a Hungarian government delegation that included Hungary’s Minister of State for Security Policy and International Cooperation, István Mikola, secretary of State for Defence, Tamás Vargha, and the Hungarian Ambassador to Iraq.

The Hungarian delegation praised the role of the KRG in the fight against ISIS terrorists and reiterated their country’s full support to the KRG in this fight. They also acknowledged the KRG for accepting large numbers of refugees and IDPS from other parts of Iraq.

Mr. István Mikola said that President Barzani’s visit to Hungary back in 2012 paved the way for mututal cooperation between the two sides and added that his country is keen to further develop ties with the KRG.

President Barzani expressed his thanks to the government of Hungary for its military support for the peshmerga forces and expressed KRG’s readiness to expand economic relations with Hungary.
