The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) released the figures on Saturday, saying at least 856 civilians and 417 security forces lost their lives last month while over 2,000 others sustained injuries.
“I express my deep outrage for the ongoing kidnappings and murders of scores of people from all segments, ethnicities or religions of the Iraqi population,” UN Iraq envoy, Nickolay Mladenov, said in a statement.
“Justice and accountability for those responsible for these mass executions, killings, disappearances, and displacement must be ensured,” he added.
The UN casualty figures are much lower than the death toll reported by the Iraqi government. Iraq says based on statistics gathered by the health, interior and defense ministries 1,725 civilians and security forces were killed in October and over 2,300 were wounded.
The UNAMI figures leave out the western province of Anbar, which borders war-ravaged Syria. It has been a major stronghold of the ISIL elements and continues to be largely controlled by the terror group.
The ISIL launched an offensive in June and took control of Iraq's second largest city, Mosul, before sweeping through much of the country's Sunni Arab heartland.
Iraq has faced brutal violence at the hands of the ISIL Takfiri terrorists as they have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians during their advances in Iraq.
