Prime Minister Barzani reiterates support for peace process in Turkey
Erbil, Kurdistan (KRG.org) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani today met with Leyla Zana, an independent Member of Turkey’s Parliament representing Diyarbakir, and Sirri Sureyya Onder, a Member of Turkey’s Parliament from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) representing Istanbul.

During the meeting the latest developments regarding Turkey’s peace process were discussed, including legal steps being taken to address the Kurdish issue in Turkey. The Prime Minister hailed these legal steps as critical in addressing the Kurdish question in Turkey peacefully, reiterating his and his government’s full support for the process and the implementation of a legal framework to guide the process forward.

Both Members of Parliament had recently visited the Imrali island prison. They conveyed Abdullah Ocalan's greetings and his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s tireless efforts in advancing the peace process in Turkey. Mr Ocalan called for continued support for the peace process and the resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey.

Prime Minister Barzani and the parliamentarians discussed regional developments in general as well as Turkey’s forthcoming presidential elections, scheduled for next month.
