Erbil, Kurdistan (KRG.org) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani today met with Mr Rashid al-Mansouri, United Arab Emirates Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, to discuss the humanitarian crisis of Iraq’s internally displaced people (IDPs).

The continuous flow of IDPs and Syrian refugees into the Kurdistan Region was discussed in the meeting, and the Prime Minister conveyed his government’s gratitude to the UAE for responding to the crisis with aid and support. He noted the key role of the Emirates Red Crescent in participating in charity projects for the Syrian refugees.

Prime Minister Barzani explained that the refugees and IDPs hosted by the Kurdistan Region need urgent support from the international community and United Nations agencies, expressing his appreciation for relevant actors, including the UAE, that have assisted the KRG in this difficult task.

Both sides indicated their full support for further strengthening bilateral ties between the KRG and the UAE, emphasising trade and investment opportunities.
