President Barzani Chairs Meeting of Kurdistan’s Political Parties
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani chaired a consultation meeting of the Kurdistan political parties today to discuss the recent events which led to the fall of Mosul and other towns in the provinces of Salahaddin, Diyala, and Kirkuk, as a result of the withdrawal of the Iraqi security forces and following the failure of political solution in Anbar province.

A statement following the meeting said that this situation is a result of a backslide in the political process which in turn has led to a political system that is in stark contrast to the Constitution and consensus.

“Trust among Iraqi political forces and national components must be restored anew, and a national initiative must be started to revive the political process by abandoning policies of marginalization, sectarianism, and authoritarianism. Military and security solutions will lead Iraq to a dangerous state and will threaten the country,” the statement read.

The participants of the meeting applauded the brave role of the Peshemrge forces in protecting the citizens in all the areas. They condemned terrorism in all shapes and forms and reiterated that there would be no compromising with terrorist groups. They also reaffirmed to continue to support the refugees from the affected areas and called on the international community to assist the tens of thousands of refugees that have fled to the Kurdistan Region.
