The US embassy to Baghdad and some British officials called their nationals, who are working in oil industry in Basra, south of Iraq, to be on alert fearing they will be kidnapped by extremist groups.

In a statement, both sides confirmed that there are extremist groups are watching American and British nationals for kidnapping them.

Iraqi authorities denied any indication of possible danger against the foreign workers in Basra.
