Families of Anfal victims demand the arrest of agents of the former regime
Dozens of families of Anfal victims and representatives of civil society organizations in Kalar district in Sulaimaniyah province protested on Sunday,, to demand the arrest of agents of the former regime who participated the former regime in Anfal operations against the Kurds in the eighties of the last century , who also have arrest warrants against them by the Criminal Court of Iraq.

One of the protesters , named Sardar Mahmood told “Shafaq News " , that “the concerned authorities in the regional government are " complacent " in the implementation of the arrest warrants against those " and cover them also."

He added that Dozens of families of Anfal victims have gathered today to demand Kurdistan Region’s President , Massoud Barzani to intervene in this matter , noting that , all the victims of Anfal will submit a memorandum to the Ministry of the Interior and the Council of Justice and Attorney General in Kurdistan Regional Government to demand the arrest of the accused people in Anfal case to be tried in a fair and equitable trial for the blood of Anfal martyrs.

For its part, the defense committee for Anfal victims in Garmiyan area issued statement reported for " Shafaq News “ in which it confirmed that the security authorities had arrested , on Saturday , one of the accused people in Anfal issues resident in Khanaqin district in Diyala province .

It is worth mentioning that Iraqi government had used plunged Kurdish fighters loyal to it within the militia that waged operations by the Iraqi army in the eighties of the last century against Kurdish villages and cities and called them as Anfal campaigns , which took place on eight stages and resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 000 Kurdish civilians and being killed in mass graves in the deserts of central and southern Iraq , as well as burning and destruction of some 5000 villages under the pretext of harboring militants opposed to the regime.
