Ebay urges users to change password after cyber attack
Online commerce giant eBay asked clients to change their passwords Wednesday after hackers stole data from what is likely a “large number” of accounts, including names, addresses, emails and birth dates.

The company said that despite the worrying cyber attack, it had found no evidence of unauthorized access to users’ credit card information.

“For the time being, we cannot comment on the specific number of accounts impacted. However, we believe there may be a large number of accounts involved and we are asking all eBay users to change their passwords,” eBay spokeswoman Kari Ramirez said in a statement.

Shares for the company specialising in consumer-to-consumer online sales fell as much as 3.2 percent following news of the cyber break-in.

The security breach was discovered about two weeks ago and likely occurred between February and March, the company said.

The hackers accessed the client data after stealing eBay employees’ log-in credentials and gaining admission to the corporate network.

EBay is the latest in a string of large US companies to have suffered cyber attacks in recent months. The retail company Target revealed in December that hackers had stolen millions of credit card numbers from its clients.
