President Masoud Barzani met with UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy, Lord Marland, in his office is Salahaddint yesterday to discuss trade and business cooperation between the UK and the Kurdistan Region.

Lord Marland, who is heading a large UK business delegation to participate in this year’s Erbil International Trade Fair, said he was very pleased to visit Kurdistan and expressed his admiration for the developments and economic boom taking place in Kurdistan. Lord Marland added that a major UK bank will soon open its offices in Erbil to further boost economic cooperation.

The UK Envoy also hailed the recent parliamentary elections held here and was particularly impressed by the large voter turnout of almost 74%. He congratulated the KRG for the successful conduct of these elections.

After welcoming Lord Marland, President Barzani said the KRG is also keen to boost cooperation with UK and its businesses. On Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the President said that our people have gotten used to participate in the country’s political life through elections and described the large voter turnout as very encouraging.
