In a statement issued today, President Masoud Barzani called on all political parties participating the upcoming parliamentary elections on September 21st, to urge their members and supporters to observe rules and regulations set out by the Iraqi High Electoral Commission and to ensure a calm and orderly election campaign is conducted.

Parliamentary elections will be held across the Kurdistan Region on 21 September 2013, and more than 1000 candidates from 27 political parties and independents will contest for 111 seats for the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament. The election campaign officially started on the 28th of August and will run until the 19th of September, two days before the election day.

In his statement, the President also called on security services to be vigilant, and to go after anyone who breaks election regulations and those who jeopardize the rights of others.
