In a message on the start of the election campaign in the Kurdistan Region, President Barzani urged citizens and all political sides to ensure that a peaceful and successful election campaign is conducted in the Kurdistan Region.


Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission announced that campaigning for the upcoming parliamentary elections starts today, 28 August 2013, and will run until 19th September, 2 days before the election date.


Parliamentary elections will be held across the Kurdistan Region on 21 September 2013, and more than 1000 candidates from 27 political parties and independents will contest for 111 seats for the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament.

In his message, the President said: “We are approaching Kurdistan parliamentary elections with great hope and confidence that this process will further enrich the democratic process in our country. Respecting democratic traditions, the welfare of our citizens and social peace is the responsibility of all of us."
