Kurdistan Islamic Movement chooses new emir
Mala Aziz could beat the other three candidates with 326 votes. Mohammed Mala Omar came second with 143 votes, Kamil Haji Ali (current Kurdistan minister of endowment and religious affairs) the third with 63 votes and former KIM emir Sadiq Abdul-Aziz the fourth with 46 votes.
The voting was conducted last night at the conclusion of the 10th conference of KIM in Erbil.
KIM, founded in 1987, holds two seats in Kurdistan parliament and a single ministry in the Kurdish government.
