Zebari to present Iraq's position about Syrian crisis at Syrian opposition conference tomorrow
The representative of Iraq in the Arab League Ambassador Qais al-Azzawi said: "Zebari will emphasize in his speech the need to find a peaceful solution between the opposition and the Syrian government and to stand against foreign intervention to keep the country away from a war that could claim the lives of innocent Syrian people.
"What is happening in Syria affects Iraq as a neighboring country and its security and independence is an extension of Iraq's security and safety."
The secretariat of the Arab League finished all the preparations to host the expanded conference of the Syrian opposition in Cairo.
The deputy secretary general of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli said: "The secretariat sent invitations to more than 200 figures representing the Syrian opposition at home and abroad in addition to the foreign ministers of the five permanent member states at the security council, and Iraq, which chairs the summit, Kuwait, which chairs the current session of the league, Qatar, which chairs the Arab-Syrian committee of the crisis, Kofi Annan the joint envoy in addition to the states that hosted the Friends of Syria conference in Syria, Turkey, Tunisia and France.
"This conference is based on a decision issued by the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of the Arab Foreign Ministers held in Doha on June 2 to reach a common vision to enable the Syrian opposition to have a clear, realistic and practical vision about the next stage."
Dr. Khaled Al-Nasser, secretary general of the Syrian Free popular opposition movement, said: "The conference of the Syrian opposition will discuss many topics and the document of national covenant that represents the features of the transitional period and the future of Syria after the fall of the Assad regime."
