Almost 18,500 drugs seized in Kirkuk since August 2011
Kirkuk police has seized 18,425 drug substances and two drug fields in Kirkuk province since August 2011, announced a colonel.
Two Dartura fields have been seized by police since August 21, 2011 along with 17,206 pieces of benzic, 5,344 valiums, 874 pieces of somadrine and 239 pieces of bilmo codeine.

Head of Kirkuk police's drugs division Nawzad Salahadin said police took control of two Dartura fields in Abasi district in the province in 2011.

Salahadin added that between 2008 and August 21, 2011, 8,600 pieces of drugs, 650g of puppy liquid and 16.5g of heroin were siezed.

The drugs division was formed in 2008 but formally started work in 2011, which is a possible reason for the large number of drugs seized in the past nine months.

Salahadin explained that 31 people were arrested for drug charges in 2008, 34 in 2009, 39 in 2010 and 89 in 2011.
