Iraqi and Kuwaiti ministers meet soon for creation of joint airline
On March 14 Baghdad and Kuwait announced an agreement for creation of the airline, worth of $200 million. The airline creation will contribute to reimbursing the suspended $500 million war damages Kuwait expects from Iraq. Baghdad has agreed to pay $300 million of the damages in cash.
The Iraqi and Kuwaiti committees, led by foreign minister of both countries, will meet in a very close future to discus procedures to enforce the recent agreement about the creation of the joint airlines, said Kareem Nouri advisor for Iraqi transportation minister.
Kuwait's refusal for releasing Iraq from the restrictions of the UN Security Council's seventh article which was imposed on Iraq after it invaded Kuwait in 1990, is due to three major suspended files: the Kuwaiti missing people and archives, the suspended war damages from Iraq and issues over border demarcations.
The deal for creation of the airline was made during a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to Kuwait to resolve the suspended issues.
The recent steps and the negotiations between the two countries may affect the decision of the Security Council in July over removing Iraq from the seventh article.
