Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani will attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled for January 20-24, 2025, a senior KRG official confirmed on Sunday.

Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, announced on the social media platform X, stating, “Prime Minister @masrourbarzani is in Abu Dhabi today. He will have other regional stops before leading a significant delegation of local business to @wef next week.”

The Prime Minister’s regional visits have reportedly focused on discussions about Syria, broader regional developments, and strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ahmad emphasized the growing trade relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE as a critical component of the discussions.

This marks Prime Minister Barzani’s continued engagement with the WEF, following his active participation in the 2024 forum, where he held high-profile meetings, including discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.

The 2025 World Economic Forum, themed “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age,” aims to address pressing global challenges through dialogue and cooperation among world leaders. The program will focus on five key areas:

  1. Responding to Geopolitical Shocks: Tackling increasing tensions and risks of armed conflict.
  2. Stimulating Economic Growth: Identifying strategies to enhance living standards amid economic uncertainties.
  3. Harnessing Technological Advancements: Exploring the impacts of AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology.
  4. Addressing Climate Change: Examining the role of innovation in mitigating environmental challenges.
  5. Promoting Inclusive Collaboration: Encouraging unity to navigate geopolitical and technological transformations.

The WEF annual meeting will bring together global policymakers, business leaders, and experts to foster sustainable development and build a future resilient to geopolitical and technological disruptions.

Prime Minister Barzani’s participation highlights the Kurdistan Region’s active role in engaging with global platforms and strengthening international partnerships.
