Kurdistan Region Prepares for New Year Festivities with Anticipation of Over 200,000 Tourists

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Tourism Board has announced comprehensive preparations for the upcoming New Year celebrations, with expectations of welcoming over 200,000 tourists to the region.

Speaking to Kurdistan24 on Friday, Ibrahim Abdul Majid, the spokesperson for the Tourism Board, detailed the efforts underway at two levels to ensure smooth and enjoyable festivities.

Streamlined Entry for Visitors
"Coordination between the Tourism Board and other KRG departments is in place, focusing on internal security and border checkpoints," Abdul Majid explained. "Comprehensive assistance has been organized to facilitate tourist entry with minimal processing times."

The Tourism Board has established committees at the directorate level to manage various responsibilities, including the distribution of maps and guides to visitors at checkpoints. These measures aim to enhance navigation and ensure the quality of services in city centers hosting New Year events.

Preventing Price Gouging and Ensuring Readiness
Efforts to curb price hikes by merchants during the holiday season are also part of the preparations. Emergency hotlines have been set up for tourists, providing immediate assistance if needed. In addition, coordination with hotels and restaurants has been finalized to ensure they are fully equipped to accommodate the influx of visitors.

Cultural Activities and Local Highlights
The festivities will feature a range of cultural, artistic, and festival activities starting mid-December. These include displays of local products and handicrafts, organized by both the Tourism Board and local administrations.

"The Tourism Board will directly oversee some events, while others will be managed by local authorities," Abdul Majid noted.

The Kurdistan Region has become a popular destination for New Year celebrations. Last year, the region attracted 200,000 tourists during the season, and officials anticipate surpassing that number this year.

With these measures in place, the Kurdistan Region aims to deliver a vibrant and welcoming New Year experience for visitors from across the globe.
