Kurdistan Regional Government Forms Committee for Right to Information Law Implementation

In a pivotal move, the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government has announced the establishment of a special committee aimed at coordinating and formulating draft guidelines for the implementation of the Right to Information Law No. (11) of 2013. This decision underscores the government's commitment to enhancing transparency, fostering accountability, and promoting citizens' and journalists' access to accurate information.

The committee, which comprises representatives from key government entities, including the Office of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Office of Media and Information, and the Independent Human Rights Commission, is tasked with developing comprehensive guidelines that align with the principles outlined in the Right to Information Law.

The primary objective of the committee is to streamline procedures that facilitate the dissemination of accurate information by various institutions operating under the Kurdistan Regional Government. This step aims to empower both journalists and citizens with reliable information, enabling them to actively participate in the democratic process.

The Right to Information Act No. 11 of 2013 holds significance as it empowers citizens and journalists by granting them access to information from both public and private institutions. By providing a framework for transparency and openness, the law aims to enhance citizens' engagement in democratic processes while ensuring accountability in governance.

To effectively realize these goals, the Kurdistan Regional Government recognizes the necessity of issuing clear government directives. These directives will establish the mechanisms and procedures required for the proper implementation of the law. The committee's work will contribute to creating a structured framework that ensures the effective execution of the Right to Information Law's provisions.

As the committee embarks on this crucial task, the Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the empowerment of its citizens through the effective implementation of the Right to Information Law.
