Kurdistan Regional Government Implements Electricity Projects to Empower Garmian Autonomous Administration

In line with the agenda of the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to prioritize citizen service and equitable distribution of resources, the Ministry of Electricity has taken significant strides towards improving the national electricity sector and addressing the long-standing electricity deficiencies in various regions of Kurdistan. One such region that has been at the forefront of the victims of historical tragedies, particularly the Anfal tragedy, is the Garmian Autonomous Administration.

Recognizing the urgent need for electricity infrastructure development in Garmian, the Ministry of Electricity has successfully executed several electricity projects at a total cost of 33 billion dinars. These projects are aimed at bringing reliable and efficient electricity to areas that have not previously benefited or received adequate power supply.

The key initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Electricity for Garmian Autonomous Administration include:

  1. Installation of a 165 MW Power Plant from Oil Field Waste Gas: At a cost of [Cost], the Ministry has established a cutting-edge power plant that harnesses oil field waste gas to generate electricity. This innovative approach not only promotes environmental sustainability by utilizing waste gas but also contributes to the region's energy self-sufficiency.
  2. Establishment of a 132 Kilovolt Substation: To ensure efficient power distribution, the Ministry invested 18.38 billion dinars in setting up a state-of-the-art 132 kV substation. This vital infrastructure enables the seamless transmission of electricity across the region, benefiting numerous communities in Garmian.
  3. Installation of 132 kV High-Pressure Lines between Kalar-Kafri: To bridge the electricity gap between Kalar and Kafri, the Ministry has implemented high-pressure transmission lines at a cost of 4.2 billion dinars. This critical link plays a pivotal role in connecting remote areas to the main power grid, significantly enhancing their access to electricity.
  4. 73 Projects to Provide Electricity to Villages and Solve Technical Issues: In an effort to bring electricity to the most remote and underserved villages in Garmian, the Ministry allocated 9.5 billion dinars for the implementation of 73 electricity projects. These projects not only focus on electrifying villages but also address technical challenges to ensure reliable power supply.

The completion of these projects marks a significant milestone in the Ministry's mission to bridge the electricity gap in Garmian Autonomous Administration. By prioritizing the welfare of its citizens and ensuring equitable access to basic services, the Kurdistan Regional Government continues to fulfill its commitment to serving the people of Kurdistan without discrimination.

The successful implementation of these electricity projects in Garmian is a testament to the government's determination to improve the lives of its citizens and create a more inclusive and prosperous future for all regions of Kurdistan.
