Kurdistan Regional Government to Discuss Implementation of Federal Budget with Iraqi Delegation

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is preparing to send a high-level delegation to Baghdad in the coming days to engage in discussions with the Iraqi government regarding the practical measures and mechanisms for implementing the federal budget. This move comes after Prime Minister Masrour Barzani formed a delegation to follow up on the implementation of the federal budget law alongside his counterpart, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani.

Omed Sabah, Head of the Diwan of the KRG Council of Ministers, stated that the relationship between the KRG and the federal government is in good standing. He further mentioned that Prime Minister Barzani has already expressed the Kurdistan Region's concerns regarding specific articles and provisions in the federal budget law during discussions with his Iraqi counterpart.

Sabah confirmed that the KRG delegation plans to visit Baghdad either by the end of this week or at the beginning of next week. Their objective is to engage with the Iraqi delegation and address the practical aspects of the federal budget law, which is crucial for both the KRG and Baghdad in terms of delivering public services and paying public sector salaries.

The budget bill has recently been voted on by the Iraqi federal parliament and subsequently ratified by the country's president. The law is expected to grant the Kurdistan Region its entitled financial resources. However, the smooth implementation of the budget law remains uncertain, and its progress will be closely watched by both the KRG and the federal government.

The discussions between the KRG and Iraqi counterparts will play a vital role in resolving any outstanding issues and ensuring the effective implementation of the budget law. The successful execution of the budget is imperative for meeting the public service needs of both regions and facilitating the payment of public sector salaries.
