Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated journalists on the occasion of Kurdish Journalism Day and emphasized the importance of freedom of the press in his message. He expressed his full support for journalists, freedom of the press, expression, and the freedom of the pen and writing.

Barzani stated that freedom of the press is the foundation and main pillar of every living and advanced society, and it is one of the first necessities to promote democracy, freedoms, and protect human rights, so protecting it is a duty.

He called on Kurdistan journalists to deal with words with utmost honesty and responsibility, to convey news and events freely and professionally, and to perform their work to the fullest in the framework of journalistic ethics so that they can play their real role in detecting errors and correcting them.

Barzani paid tribute to the memory and spirit of Mekdad M. Bedirxan, the pioneer of the first newspaper (Kurdistan), and also honored all journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom.
