Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued the following statement on the anniversary of the Badinan Anfal:

“During the Badinan Anfal, the last stage of the Ba'ath regime’s infamous Anfal campaign against the Kurdish people, the regime used chemical weapons against the people of Badinan, killing thousands and leaving many more missing.

“On the 34th anniversary of this tragedy, we honor the victims of this horrendous atrocity and reiterate our calls to the Iraqi Federal Government to compensate families of the victims, both as dictated by the Constitution and as it is a right of the people of the Kurdistan Region.

“The mindset behind such a crime should also be ended so that such massacres can never happen again.

“Blessed be the soul of all the victims of the Badinan Anfal and all of Kurdistan’s martyrs.”
