explosive device explodes in convoy of International Coalition in Anbar

An explosive device exploded, on Saturday, in a convoy of trucks belonging to the international coalition to combat ISIS, in western Iraq, without causing any losses.

An Anbar police officer told Anadolu Agency that "an explosive device planted by unknown persons next to a main road in the province, exploded in a column of trucks carrying materials and logistical equipment of the International Coalition."

The officer, who preferred not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the media, added that "the explosion did not cause human casualties or material damage."

He stated that the security authorities opened an investigation into the accident to find the culprits.

No party claimed responsibility for the attack, and there was no comment from the Iraqi authorities and the international coalition until 10:45 GMT.

This development comes amid the escalation of attacks with missiles, booby-trapped marches and explosive devices in the past weeks, targeting the US embassy inside the Green Zone in the center of the capital, Baghdad, and the international coalition forces in military bases throughout Iraq.

Washington usually accuses Iraqi armed factions linked to Iran of being behind the attacks targeting its embassy and military bases in Iraq.

And repeatedly, factions close to Iran, including the Iraqi "Hezbollah" Brigades, have threatened to target the locations of US forces in Iraq, if Washington does not end its military presence in the country.
