Russian Defense announces arrival of "Kinzhal" carriers to Hmeymim base in Syria
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the arrival of two MiG-31K fighters, capable of carrying hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, to the Hmeymim base in Syria for the first time, Russian News Agency, Tass, reported on Friday.
The ministry explained in a statement reported by "Tass" News Agency that joint exercises conducted by the forces of the Mediterranean Fleet and the Air Force start today, noting that as part of the exercises at the Russian Hmeymim Air Base, two training aircraft of the Russian Air Force were launched.
MiG-31K has the ability to use the latest hypersonic missiles, including the Kinzhal.
For his part, the commander of one of the MiG-31K fighters said that by order of the military command, hypersonic missile carriers will perform "training missions" in Syria.
Earlier, Russian military sources reported that the hypersonic "Kinzhal" missile can exceed the speed of sound by ten times, and is capable of traveling a distance of two thousand kilometers and bypassing all current air and missile defense systems.
