Prime Minister Barzani meets United Nations new Envoy
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received United Nation’s new Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert and her accompanying delegation.

Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert for her new position and wished her success in her duties. He assured her of his government’s support during her mission.

They discussed the political process in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the importance of completing the formation of the new cabinet of the Iraqi government and the improvement of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.

They considered that cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq are necessary, particularly in the areas, covered by Article 140 of the Constitution, which has been witnessing instability and security issues.

They stressed the need to resolve outstanding issues within the framework of the federal Constitution.

Coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government institutions and the United Nations, as well as the latest developments in the wider region were also discussed.
