Over 1.4 Million IDPs, Refugees Remain in Kurdistan
ERBIL — Despite Iraqi government’s announcement of liberation of the entire country from the Islamic State (IS) 1 year ago, more than 1.4 million Iraqi IDPs and Syrian refugees are unwilling to leave Kurdistan and return to their homes.

According to the latest updates by Kurdistan Region’s Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC), a total of 284,132 refugees and 1,127,400 internally displaced people are still in Kurdistan.

In November only, JCC reported, 331 newly displaced families arrived in the Kurdistan Region which totally numbered 1,536 individuals.

During the same month, 1,577 IDPs returned to their areas of origin voluntarily.

However, the report makes it clear that among the refugees are 20,576 individuals from Turkey, 13,162 from Iran, and 756 from Palestine.
