ERBIL — Russian Ministry of Defense has warned of a possible chemical attack by the Islamic State (IS) against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.

The ministry said in a statement that he had received intelligence indicating that trained IS militants were developing chemical shells in areas still under their control in Hajin.

“The manufactured chemical munitions are intended for firing on the positions of the Kurdish SDF, which are conducting, with the support of the United States, military operations against the terrorists in the area of the settlement of Hajin in Deir ez-Zor province,” Sputnik quoted a statement by the ministry.

It claimed that such an attack by IS is a plan to mislead the international community that Damascus was responsible for the chemical bombardment, and, consequently, provoke Coalition airstrikes against the Syrian army.
