Ukraine to Open Embassy Office in Erbil
ERBIL — The government of Ukraine has decided to open its first Embassy office in the Kurdistan Region as part of preparations to revive “strong ties” with Erbil, said head of country’s diplomatic mission in Iraq.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Iraq, Viktor Nedopas, visited Erbil on Wednesday and met with top Kurdish officials to discuss bilateral ties. In his meetings, he noted that Kiev was hoping to re-establish close relations with the Kurds.

He later told Kurdistan 24 that a representative has been appointed to Erbil where diplomatic ties and visa applications will be enhanced.

“There were strong ties between Ukraine and Kurdistan in the past. We hope that we revive this relation. We have also encouraged our companies to invest in different sectors in the Kurdistan Region,” Nedopas said.

“We are aware of people’s concerns over visa applications for which they were required to travel to Baghdad. There is now an office for visa applications in Erbil,” he added.
