Turkish jets bomb near populated areas in Zakho’s mountains: locals
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Turkish warplanes have bombarded mountains in Kurdistan Region’s Zakho area, locals reported on Monday.

Jets dropped two bombs on Mount Sharan, Hawar Farman, a resident of Zakho’s Darkar district, told Rudaw by phone.

"Turkish warplanes had previously bombards this mountain, but this is the first time that it bombards spots close to populated areas,” Farman said.

Another local resident reported the bombardment in the Mount Khamtri in the area, saying that the airstrikes produced a lot of smoke.

The Zakho area lies some 160 kilometres northwest of Erbil, near where the borders of Iraq, Turkey, and Syria meet.

Turkey frequently carried out air raids against alleged PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region’s mountains.

The Peshmerga on Sunday denounced the “illegal” forays after three civilians were killed last week.
