SORAN, Kurdistan Region – Turkish jets and artillery are bombing Kurdistan Region’s Bradost area.

“The fight broke out this morning and is still ongoing,” Sidakan mayor Ihsan Chalabi told Rudaw.

“Turkish jets and long-range artillery are bombing Chiadel area. The bombing has caused fires in the area and fear among locals,” he said.

Turkey frequently bombs alleged PKK positions within the Kurdistan Region, occasionally hitting civilians, causing death or injury.

The bombardments are also blamed for wildfires that have destroyed acres of the Kurdistan Region’s tree cover and damaged farmlands.

The Turkish army claimed to have “neutralized” 19 PKK fighters within the Kurdistan Region’s borders and destroyed a number of PKK shelters and weapons depots in at least seven separate air raids this week.

The army uses the word “neutralized” to refer to those killed, injured, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

The PKK has its headquarters in the Kurdistan Region’s Qandil mountains.

The Bradost area is located some 70 kilometres northeast of Erbil.
