Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received former Turkish Minister of Agriculture Mehmet Mehdi Eker, Consul-General of Turkey to Erbil Hakan Karacay and a delegation from the Turkish educational Maarif Foundation.

In the meeting, also attended by Kurdistan Regional Government Minister of Education, Pishtiwan Sadiq, along with other KRG officials, the delegation stressed further strengthening of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey, especially in the field of education.

They thanked the KRG for its support and assistance in establishing the Maarif Foundation in the Region.

Prime Minister Barzani stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey in all sectors, especially with its substantial experience in education, Turkey can help Kurdistan Region’s educational institutions.

General issues related to the educational system in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and the situation in the wider area were also discussed.
