Prime Minister Barzani receives U.S. Deputy Secretary of State
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received a senior delegation headed by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, John Sullivan.

Deputy Secretary Sullivan congratulated Prime Minister Barzani on the success of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections as well as the victory over ISIS terrorists. He reaffirmed the support of the United States of America to the Kurdistan Region.

He called for continuation of dialogue between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues and promote security and economic cooperation.

He also expressed hope that all Iraqi leaders will work to form the new Iraqi government on time in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed appreciation for U.S. assistance to the Kurdistan Region. He also briefed the delegation on the political process in Iraq and the participation of the Kurdistan Region as well as the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

The delegation included Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Ricky L. Waddell, US Ambassador to Iraq, Douglas Silliman and U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Steven Fagin. They were accompanied by a number of U.S. diplomatic and military officials.

A number of Kurdistan Regional Government ministers and senior officisals also attended the meeting.
