Tuz Khurmatu Marketplace Closed Down to Protest Occupation
ERBIL — The marketplace in central Tuz Khurmatu was closed by the locals on Tuesday which marks the fist anniversary of Iraqi government’s occupation of the city on 16th October 2017.

Omed Salah, one of the locals told BasNews that the initiative was to show people’s disagreement on Baghdad’s rule in their hometown and condemn last year’s attack against the people of Tuz Khurmatu.

“Last year on this day, our shops were looted and then burned by Hashd al-Shaabi militias. Therefore we decided to close down the marketplace on its one year anniversary,” Salah said.

“We will never forget the tragedy on 16th October [2017]. We will pass this to other generations to remember it forever.”
