ISIS threatens more attacks on Iran
Iran is "flimsier than a spider's web, and with God's help, what comes will be worse and more bitter," Abu Hassan al-Muhajir, ISIS spokesperson, said in a recording carried by the group’s al-Furqan network on Telegram, AFP reported.
He said that the attack on Ahvaz will not be the last.
Gunmen opened fire on a military parade in the southwestern Iranian city on Saturday, killing 24 people, including a child.
Two groups have claimed responsibility – ISIS and an Arab separatist group called the Ahvaz National Resistance.
Iran has blamed separatists backed by a “foreign regime.” The IRGC accused Saudi Arabia of funding the attackers and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed pro-US nations.
“The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the smallest threat will be harsh, but those who sponsor the terrorists must be held accountable,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said responding to the Ahvaz attack.
ISIS’ first attack in Iran was in June 2017 when 17 people were killed in simultaneous attacks on the parliament in Tehran and the tomb of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini south of the capital.
