Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received a telephone call from U.S. Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo.

They discussed the latest political developments in Iraq, including the process of the election by the parliament of the new Iraqi president and the formation of the new government.

They stressed the need to intensify efforts for the success and progress in the political process in Iraq. They hoped the outcome will assure political stability, security and that the new government and authority will reflect the aspirations of all Iraqi communities.

Secretary of State Pompeo pointed to the significant role of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi political process.

The U.S. relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well as the latest developments in the wider region were also discussed.
