Prime Minister Barzani and U.S. Envoy discuss political process
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) - Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Brett McGurk, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Douglas Silliman and the U.S. Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, Steven Fagin.

They discussed the political process in Iraq, including the election of the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and his deputies, the ongoing talks on the formation of the new Iraqi government, and the upcoming parliamentary election in the Kurdistan Region.

They stressed the effective role and strong presence the Kurdistan Region can have in Baghdad as well as its contribution to the current political process in Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani pointed to the ongoing talks between Kurdistan political parties, especially the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, on creating unanimity on the overall political process in Iraq.
