Prime Minister Barzani and Vice President Pence discuss latest developments in Iraq
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (cabinet.gov.krd) – Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received a phone call from the Vice President of the United States, Mr. Mike Pence, on Monday.

Both Leaders discussed the role of the Kurdistan Region during the talks to form a new Iraqi government. The leaders also reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his appreciation and gratitute for the U.S. support to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in the fight against ISIS terror organization. He also noted that more cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and U.S. is vital to prevent the resurgence of terror in Iraq.

Vice President Pence expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga in the fight against terrorism and he congratulated Prime Minister Barzani for his initiatives to further promote coexistence and religious freedom in the KRG. Both leaders agreed to provide support and assistance to the displaced people and help oppressed religious communities in Iraq return to their homes.
