Presedent Barzani: There is no force able to deprive Yazidis from their authentic nationality
The President of Kurdistan Region , Massoud Barzani confirmed on Wednesday that there are some who seek to " deprive " Yezidi Kurds from the Kurdish identity , pointing out that he " is assured that there is no force capable of depriving Yazidis from their authentic nationality


Barzani said on the occasion of Yazidis New Year ( Sar Sal - Charsha MA Sour) , briefed by " Shafaq News " , that “ Yazidis were the best model for resistance and steadfastness of the Kurdish people who suffered for all attempts of genocide and ethnic killing , adding that they " stood steadfast , and with honor to resist injustice and tyranny by Iraqi regimes that tried to change their national identity . "

Barzani expressed his regret that after the fall of the Baath regime, there are still some people trying to “deprive “Yezidi Kurds from the Kurdish national identity, adding that they are “resisting the attempts with great pride.”

He said that “he felt quite comfortable that there is no force capable of depriving Yezidi Kurds from their authentic nationality."

Barzani expressed his wishes for their festivals and rituals to be in freedom , peace and tranquility atmosphere and live in peace.

Kurdistan Parliament has ratified in 2010 a draft resolution that considered the holidays and special occasions of Yazidis as public holidays for them in the region , as Legal Affairs and Endowment Committees submitted their reports on the project as a number of members of parliament have proposed to make Yazidis New Year as an official holiday in the whole region and the proposal has been voted on and achieved consensus .

A decision was signed by President of Kurdistan Region , Massoud Barzani , No. 16 on October 27 which considered " Sar Sal " an official holiday in Kurdistan.

According to the Eastern calendar adopted by Yezidis, which delayed behind the Western calendar by 13 days, the Yazidi New Year is in the first Wednesday of April of each year, the east , and today Wednesday marks the Yazidi New Year holiday .

According to the researchers, the Yazidi religion is of the old Kurdish religion because all religious texts are recited in Kurdish language in religious rituals and rites .

According to unofficial statistics, the number of Yazidis is about 600 000 people in Iraq including Kurdistan Region , as most of them live in the provinces of Nineveh and Dahuk ( 405 and 460 km north of Baghdad ).
