Countering frequent accusations that it is a male-dominated affair, the Cannes Film Festival on Monday announced a jury consisting of more women than men.

US film director Sofia Coppola, actors Carole Bouquet, Leila Hatami, Gael Garcia Bernal and Willem Dafoe will join Jane Campion next month on the Cannes Film Festival jury, organisers said Monday.

Coppola, whose second feature film "Lost in Translation" was nominated for four Oscars, is no stranger to the festival.

The 42-year-old's third film "Marie-Antoinette" competed at the festival in 2006, and her "The Bling Ring" opened "A Certain Regard" side-category last year.

Mexico's Bernal shot to fame with his role in the Oscar-nominated film "Amores Perros". His role as a young Che Guevara in "The Motorcycle Diaries" later earned him a BAFTA nomination. He is also a director and producer.

US veteran actor Dafoe has acted in some 80 films – the most recent being "The Grand Budapest Hotel" – and was twice nominated for an Oscar.

Also serving on the jury will be Chinese director Jia Zhangke, whose brutal "A Touch of Sin" won the Best Screenplay prize at last year's festival.

Other jury members are South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon and Danish director and producer Nicolas Winding Refn.

The jury, headed by New Zealand director Campion, will award the coveted Palme d'Or to one of the 18 films in competition at the May 14-25 festival.
